Oh Meryl, Oscar’s calling… Critically-acclaimed actress Meryl Streep is pretty much a shoo-in for at least another Academy Award nomination with her cinematic turn as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The Iron Lady depicts Baroness Thatcher’s political rise in an arena dominated by men. The first teaser for The Iron Lady exploded onto the blogospher last week, introducing film fams to the finely coiffed, pale-faced PM as her advisers fuss over her public image. Once we finally get a glimpse of the leading lady herself, Meryl displays upright composure, refined vowels and glinting eyes in her interpretation of the controversial British leader’s style.
Jim Broadbent stars as Thatcher’s husband Denis, and Streep’s Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd steps behind the lens to direct. The Iron Lady opens in cinemas in January.
